Student Services

Our Mission:

 Ashley Elementary School Counseling Program is committed to fostering all student’s academic, personal/social, and career development by providing a comprehensive, data-driven, school counseling program with a global perspective. All students’ individual differences and learning styles will be enhanced through the school counselor’s collaboration with parents, teachers, administrators, and community members in creating a positive school culture.


Vision Statement:

The vision of Ashley Elementary School Counseling program seeks to serve the “whole student” and ascertain that each student feels confident and supported in all personal/ social/ academic, and career domains.  This vision holds that the school and classroom community are places where students feel accepted and the environment is inclusive.  Furthermore, we wish for students and staff members to have a positive interest in school and hold various views of success, that differ between students.  Our ultimate goal is for students to be prepared to be model citizens and to collaborate, compete, and succeed in an interconnected world.  


School Counselor

Hours of availability: Wednesday 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Professional school counselors are certified/licensed educators with a minimum of a Master’s degree in school counseling making them uniquely qualified to address students’ cognitive, socio-emotional and career development needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.  They also provide consultation, individual and group counseling, academic advisement.  In addition, they provide prevention, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.



School Social Worker

Hours of availability: Monday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m’ and Wednesday 11:30-3:00

School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a Bachelors or Master’s degree in social work.  They are the link between the home, school, and community.  School social workers provide direct as well as indirect services to students, families and school personnel such as monitoring school attendance, promoting dropout prevention, consultation, information and referral, identification of at-risk students, and counseling.  In addition, they provide prevention, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.

Hours of availability: Wednesday 8:00-3:00 

School psychologists are highly trained in both psychology and education, completing a minimum of a specialist-level degree program.  they provide assessment and testing of students for special services.  Consultation with teachers.  Counseling for students.  In addition, they provide prevention, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and program modification for special learning and/or behavioral needs.

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success and life-long achievement and health of students.  School nurses facilitate health services such as immunizations, communicable disease control, vision and hearing screening and follow-up, health assessments and referrals, and health counseling and information for students and families.  School nurses actively collaborate with school personnel, students and parents to create health plans and to administer medication.

The military family and youth liaison (MFYL) acts as a communication link between the installation and the school district in order to ease the transition for the military students.  The MFYL coordinates and supports efforts to: assess needs, build awareness of resources, and connect those with needs to supportive solutions.

The EC Case Teacher can address concerns for students eligible for special education services. They can verify service implementation and communicate with the student’s team to meet their academic and functional needs. In addition, she can coordinate Child Find. This is a coordinated effort between the Student Services Team and the Exceptional Children Services to locate and identify children and youth suspected of or diagnosed with a disability who might have intellectual, physical, or emotional disabilities and are unable to benefit from the regular school program without special assistance.

Duties Of A School Counselor

1.  Talks with students individually and in groups.
2.  Gains an understanding of students through observation in the classroom.
3.  Works with potentially “at-risk” students.
4.   Helps students relate to others.
5.   Promotes positive attitudes and values among students.
6.   Actively listens to concerns of parents, teachers, and peers in helping students.
7.  Responds to identified concerns.
8.  Provides follow-up, prevention, remediation and crisis intervention services.
9.  Helps people to make better use of community resources.
10. Uses test data to provide information about abilities, achievement, interests, and needs.
11. Assists students in coping with developmental issues.
12. Coordinated efforts with other school specialists.
13. Coordinates referrals to outside agencies.
14. Assists with school, college, job, career and personal plans.
15. Participates in curriculum development.
16. Maintains confidentiality.
